The ever original and resourceful Maki over at Dosh Dosh has come up with an interesting Technorati experiment which could have benefits for all who take part.

It is essentially a reciprocal exchange of ‘Favoriting’ - if you find the profile of a blog you like on Technorati, you have the option to ‘Favorite it’. Technorati offers a Top 100 list of the most favorited blogs, and to gain access to this, you currently only need to be favorited by 115 people (although that’ll probably soon change!)

What are the benefits? No one knows for sure, but this is what Maki is investigating-put it this way though, there is never any harm in being in the Top 100 of anything on a site like Technorati.

How To Take Part

1. First, add Blog-Op to your favourites by following this link:Add to Technorati Favorites
2. Then leave a link to YOUR Technorati profile in my comments, and I’ll favourite you back. Please leave an actual link, as finding blogs using Techorati’s flaky search function is hard work.
3. Add others who have left their link in my comments.
4. Visit the Techorati experiment post on Dosh Dosh and add Maki, who’ll reciprocate.
5. If you want to, post about it on your blog, and leave a linkback to the Dosh Dosh post. Maki will then link back to you in the original post. Link back to Blog-Op as well, and I’ll do the same.

Pretty simple, and you don’t have to do part 5, but the linkage makes it very worthwhile.

Dosh Dosh bring up this topic Ultimate Technorati Favorites Exchange: An Interactive Experiment, I think it worth to test, and I will have the same rules with Dosh Dosh.

The way it works is this: Your Technorati ranking is affected by how many people make you their favorite and by how many links there are to your blog. Without reciprocal link exchanges, it can take quite a while to get enough favorites to make a difference. What kind of effect does this have for your blog? It can only help it become more ubiquitous among other bloggers who use Technorati to monitor blog articles. I get a lot of referring from Technorati as it is now. That number can only go up.
