As you well know, there are hundreds of directory sites out there, of varying quality and usability, and aside from (maybe) a link from a decent PR page, most aren’t of much long-term use at all.

A directory I submitted to months ago has recently undergone a major re-vamp, and looks like it wants to take on My BlogLog and more: Blogcatalog.

I’ve noticed the Blogcatalog MBL-style widgets appearing on more blogs now, and superficially the setup is very similar: You can add other bloggers as ‘friends’, join ‘neighborhoods’ instead of communities etc. Beyond that however, they have some pretty active forums (known as ‘discussions’-why must they change the name of everything?) with some regular participants of the likes of Andy Beard and Maki from Dosh-Dosh. Furthermore, the directory is sensibly arranged, making browsing of similar blogs much easier, and the whole site just feels like a version of MBL that has been thoughtfully designed, rather than thrown together.

It’s certainly worth signing up, adding your blog/s and taking a look round. Joining in the discussions could be a great way of introducing yourself and your blog to new readers.

To give Blogcatalog a further push,  Mona at iwebis has launched a Blogcatalog Buzz Experiment, and today’s the day to join in. Check out the linked post and why not write your own? The more buzz around Blogcatalog, the more benefit there will be for the users of it.

If you want to find me on Blogcatalog, here is my profile. Feel free to add me and my blogs, and I’ll return the favour ;-)
