I recently submitted a couple of posts to the Problogger 31 days to building a better blog series, and the new readers coming in today have been great to see – hello!
Even better are all the tips being submitted which give you a chance to learn new things, and find new blogs to read – some of my favourites are below:
- The Rich Minx gives us 7.5 Reasons I Abandoned You Today, and they’re worth considering hard if you’re guilty of any of them. I think I’m innocent, and I really agree with her on blogs that turn comments off-fine if you don’t like interacting with people I guess! As for the text size issue, it can be tricky to get right, but as a reader you do have a couple of options – read the blog in a feed reader, or just hold down the ‘Ctrl’ key and roll the mouse wheel to zoom in or out.
- Skellie spins us a real life fairytale of Hansel & Gretel Link Building, and gives us a comprehensive run-down on how you can carry out this essential task to really build your blog. Bottom line? It’s hard work, but essential. I’ve been reading Skellie’s blog since coming across her at the AuthorityBlogger forums – she reminds me a lot of Maki from DoshDosh in her approach and comprehensive take on subjects. If you read DoshDosh, you should read Skelliewag.
- FiLi has a great post about turning 404 not found readers into blog readers. This is a subject I was aware of, but hadn’t done anything about, but now I’ve read this post I know what to do and how to go about it. If you’ve ever amended your permalinks, or changed a post title, then you will have Search Engine visitors encountering ‘404′ pages. In fact it’s possible to get these just through the SE’s not indexing you properly. Following fiLi’s advice might help you to hook these people in, rather than seeing them disappear….
- Tom Wilson asks us to consider whether it’s Link Train or Link Spam, and I really come down on the Link Spam side of the fence. Google really doesn’t like link trains, and Tom will explain why. Thanks to anyone that tags me now or in the future, but I won’t be publishing link trains on Blog-Op for all the reasons he goes into.
- Rhys from Welsh Wales (I know where it is,and I’m an Arsenal fan!) asks us to consider 3 rubbish things new bloggers do, and 3 better things to do instead. I’m with him on all three, especially anyone who uses the ‘Misty’ theme (John Chow) with sports cars in the header and ‘theirname.com’ as the URL being a sad friendless loner, who deserves a painful death. Well, Rhys didn’t say that last bit, but I think he’d agree. Blog it your way people!
- Webmaster-Source implores us to Don’t block Firefox! and he’s absolutely right. Amazingly some people object to those of us who use the ability of FireFox to block ads from being visible on any websites we browse, and have installed scripts to prevent us from reading their sites at all! Well, goodbye then, your loss, not mine. I use Firefox, I publish ads and I support free choice – I don’t mind if you block my ads, I’d rather you just read my blog anyway. Incredible stuff, do have a read.
- Vijay gives us all some sound advice to read if you don’t want to get penalized by Google – If Google excludes you from their index, you could wave goodbye to most of your visitors and income. If you’re running any of the tricks outlined in this post, best stop now.
Some good stuff there I think.
These are just my favourites out of 113 tips posted, and they look like some good blogs as well. I’m going to subscribe to all of their feeds and see what they come up with over the next few weeks, and what’s lurking in their archives. If you fancy some cool new blogs to read, why not do the same?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackLink train? First time I heard that word, this should be interesting.
Thanks for the link!
A good set of links to build a power blog
I checked out some of those links. Thanks
Glad you liked them, some good stuff there.
Thanks for the linky love Chris! Was a bit taken back by it, as although I submitted it to the Problogger Group Project, I thought it wasn’t listed yet :S
Oh well, glad you liked my tips, you crazy Arsenal Fan
!
Actually I think I found your post via a RichMinx comment….or I may be psychic
no link trains aye? how about contests?? b/c i’m giving away a 24 inch LCD
Thanks for the link. That’s a good tip about increasing font size. Or I could just get glasses.
Hey Cash, no I’m always up for contests
From what I’ve read the old school link trains are virtually worthless and may even harm your ranking. Far better to hand out some careful links inside relevant text, such as the ’speedlinking’ or round up posts that more people are doing.
You could Minx, but you could just do what I do & sit closer to the screen. Unfortunately I’m now leaving nose prints on my monitor…..
