Thanks for trying Maki I figure reviews ain’t going to hurt, and as they’re based in the Amazon system, you may get some exposure for doing them.

I’ve had a similar response when I’ve tried reviewing sites, Alexa is just a crap site, and makes Technorati look like a paragon of robustness.

Anita, everyone appears to have seen some benefit - I go with the opinion of ‘can it hurt?’ It may, as Maki suggested, assist Alexa in tracking your site’s stats.

Maki’s statement shows exactly why Alexa is such a ridiculous #. There’s some sites that have top 1,000 Alexa ranks, but only get a couple hundred/thousand visitors per day (because most of them are SEO-minded). There’s others that get 100,000+ per day and aren’t in the top 25,000 (e.g. some games or Myspace layout sites).

That said, have you found that having the widget improves your Alexa rankings? I might as well add it if so …

Chris.. I wrote that reviewing might help but I’m not sure if it really does.. just heard it from some webmasters that it might help.

Anyway I tried reviewing Blog-Op but got an error message.. “This site is currently unavailable for reviewing. Please check back soon.”

Bummer.. I was looking forward to praising your blog lol.

If you’ve ever rated a book etc. on Amazon, you’ll recognise the template.

Chris, interesting topic! I am not so much concerned with Alexa ratings for myself but I am for another blog that I help maintain. What and where are the ‘reviews’ that you refer to?

I installed mine about two weeks ago and it hasn’t done anything but just sit there. It doesn’t blink, it doesn’t budge it doesn’t even make obscene comments. Maybe I’m too new to count.
