After being down for over 3 months, DMOZ, The Open Directory is now accepting submissions again.
DMOZ is used as a source of site information by all of the big search engines, and if you get listed in it, it can greatly improve your visibility in search results. Submission is free, and very easy, and an essential part of SEO.
Do ensure that you have selected the correct category for submission, and do not attempt to spam. DMOZ have very strict submission criteria, and failure to observe these will result in your blog not getting listed. They have several sub-categories for blogs, so make sure you choose the right one.

After 3 months away, DMOZ the open directory is now accepting submissions again. This is very important news if you want to improve your chances of getting picked up by the major search engines…..
Great news. i have been watching the site since before christmas wanting to submit my web site. ill get over there now and submit it, do you know if they are accepting editors yet as i know that was also down?
Hi Kathryn,
As far as I’m aware, they’re not yet accepting new editors. Best to bookmark their discussion forums & keep an eye on them.
Thanks for sharing this. I’ve just submited my Sunflower.
I will Exercise for Comments!

Really! Time to head over there; I’ve submitted before with no luck - I didn’t know they had actually been closed down.
Yeah, they had some kind of almighty server failure in October, and have been closed to new submissions ever since. I’ve heard comments both ways on DMOZ, bottom line is a listing there isn’t going to hurt your site…
Geez, it’s about time. I wonder why they closed down?
Thanks for stopping by my site, I look forward to your future posts!
Anita
The official line is a massive hardware failure. Rumours mention funding ‘issues’. I guess the full story will come out in time…
