Being one of the few people who (occasionally) reads the notifications in my WordPress dashboard, I thought I’d check out the latest plugin releases and I’m glad I did, as I discovered a very useful plugin that helps you ensure that all of your others are current.

WP Plugins Tracker does just that, and is a simple one file upload and activation. This gives you a new tab from your dashboard that lists all of your current plugins, what version they are, and what version is listed at Wp-Plugins-Db.org. Any mismatches are highlighted in red, which prompts you to check out the latest version.

Obviously if your plugin isn’t listed in the database, or if the information is incorrect it can’t help, but it identified the vast majority of mine, and just how many were out of date.

There are other similar plugins out there, but this is the first one I’ve found that has records for the majority of the plugins I use, and it’s a very quick way of seeing which require upgrades at a glance.

I’m off to upgrade hell for the rest of the day: have fun!
