Here’s an idea that could spread far and wide across the internet, or die whimpering unknown and unloved, but hey….
Have you ever written a post that never really got the response you hoped for? One that you may have laboured hard over, or felt that you really nailed, but the general response was ‘meh’? Or perhaps you wrote it months ago, and although it did well, you’d like to show it to some readers who missed it first time? Well I’d like to read it, and I’ll also give it some link love.
Here’s how:
Write a post on your blog linking to your best post, and maybe telling us why you like it. Link back to me, using this post, and when I get the pingback, I’ll visit, have a read and leave a comment. If your software doesn’t do pingbacks, link me and leave me a comment telling me to visit. Finish your post by inviting your readers to share their best posts with you in the same way. If you want to, include these ‘rules’ although they’re more like a guide:
‘The Rules’
- Write a post telling your readers about your ‘best shot’ and link them to it.
- Linkback to the blog which first asked you to give your best shot.
- Ask your readers for their best posts, and then ensure you read and comment on them.
I’m not looking to start another link train here, or have my name or URL stamped all over this, all I ask you to link to in your post, is the blog where you first learned of the idea: so if you’re reading this and decide to do it, then please link to me, but your readers should then link back to you and so on.
Why?
What’s the purpose of doing this? To breathe some fresh air into old posts, to share some linkage, to expose readers to new blogs (now will be a good time to de-lurk and publicise your blog!) and maybe get each other some more traffic.
Don’t forget that when you read the submitted ‘best shots’ to leave a comment, and also if you enjoyed them to Digg them, Stumble them or whatever seems appropriate.
A Blog-Op Bonus
As a little bonus, those of you who take me up on this, as well as reading your posts, I’ll also give them some linkage in a round-up post in the near future. If the idea takes off at all, I’ll also do my best to follow the links as they grow out amongst your readers.
I’m sure this idea’s not massively original, but I’d love to see what you come up with and then your readers in turn, and I look to finding some cool new blogs to read out of this.
Who’s first?

Hello Chris! I came across this great idea over at Claire’s blog and have done a post and linked it back to both herself and you.
If you’d like to take a look at it, you can find it here.
I think this is a fantastic idea and I truly hope it takes off around the internet!
Linda
Thanks everyone so far, I’ve visited & commented, and there’s some great posts. I’ll link you back shortly.
ChrisBlogging, as you can see, not bad, but I can always do with a few more volunteers…
Nice idea, Chris.
Not too long back, I took a lot of my very first posts offline, back into the draft stage. There were no comments, no backlinks, and I know I can express my ideas better than I once did. So they’re waiting for a brand spanking relaunch, once I find the time.
I’ve done a “best shot” post and its up now.
You always show up with a bright idea
Interesting David, never really thought of doing that. I just repost the same stuff on a 6 week cycle, nobody notices
Nice one Curmudgeon, I’ve had a read.
Thanks Balinese, I hope some more people have a go.
