This post is less about directly improving your blog, than helping other bloggers. Why? Well, why not? A lot of blogging success is down to people adopting your blog and actively promoting and linking to it without you even knowing about it. So play your part, and when you find a good blog, do your bit to help them out, in some or all of the following ways.

  1. Stumble them. If you don’t know what that means then have a quick read of yesterdays post. It was reading this article on the Cornwallseo.com blog which inspired me to write this post, as it helped me to formulate a lot of the things I do for my favourite blogs, one of which is to use Stumble. If you like the entire blog, stumble it’s URL, if they come up with a solid gold post, stumble that instead. Don’t assume somebody else has already done it, and give them a nice review as well.
  2. Link to them. So what if your blog has no traffic, and no visitors, linking a blog is always appreciated, and shows what you think of it. On my Thermal blog, once a month I write a post spotlighting the blogs I’ve recently added to my blogroll, and urge my readers to visit. I hope it works, and it’s usually appreciated.
  3. Use Digg/Reddit etc. This can give a huge boost to a blog, but use with care as it can do more harm than good. Ensure the post that you’d like to boost isn’t going to be regarded as Spam by the dirty Diggers…
  4. Add them to your Technorati Favourites. There is a listing of the ‘Most favorited’ blogs on Technorati, and every vote matters.
  5. Leave some comments! 99% of bloggers love comments, and if you read a blog regularly, say hello, leave a compliment, anything is usually appreciated.
  6. Subscribe to their RSS feed. If you don’t know what that is, my previous post may help, but to find it just click on the green RSS icon in the top right of my blog - using feeds is a great way to never miss a post, and helps to become a regular reader and commenter. I could never keep up with my 60+ favourite blogs using just bookmarks, RSS & Google Reader makes it much easier.

None of this is going to take long, but will be greatly appreciated by the blogger you’re doing this for, and in the blogging world especially; what goes around, comes around and people may just do the same for your blog.
