Six months is a long time in blogging (to coin a phrase), and I’ve read a lot of posts recently from people making the 6 month mark with tens of thousands of hits, tons of RSS subscribers etc. Oh well.
But what were people talking about 6 months ago? Lets see….
- RT was professing his love for the Philippines, and doing his best vampire impression to keep out of the heat-have you acclimatised yet RT? He was also knee deep in the hoopla-what ever became of that?
- Maki was informing us how to make money by hacking MyLot , which wasn’t as nefarious as it sounds and also gave me my first heads-up on Agloco - where did that go? (still in beta hell I think). I think Dosh Dosh was still on Blogger then too.
- Matthew Jabs was telling us to eat local organic produce, which is something we as a family have been doing for a while now. It tastes a million times better, isn’t any more expensive and isn’t likely to mutate into anything horrible: A win win win situation? He also gave us a heads-up on the excellent Foxit PDF reader which is way better than Acrobat, and has been my reader of choice for a while now.
- Josh was asking whether blogrolls were dead, and whether or not he needs one. I’ve read conflicting arguments on this one, and for now I’m happy to keep mine. It is maintained on a single page now, rather than being blog wide.He was also suffering some serious Apple problems, and was at that time advising us to stick with our PCs. No problem there Josh, I’ve never managed to maintain the sustained level of smugness required to be an Apple user
- Finally, the Curmudgeon was short on Christmas cheer dealing with teens & post teens, and relates a happy tale of him throwing all of his toys out of the pram over a slight lack of unleaded in the family wheels. Still, at least he had the pleasure of being interviewed for the position of Cook County associate judge. By all accounts it was like deja vu all over again.
Six months, wherever did it go?
I’ve always enjoyed reading the archives of my favourite blogs, and as time goes on, there’ll be something quite substantial to look through. It’s always interesting how the style of the blogger changes as they gradually gain an audience, and I don’t think I’m any different.
What were you blogging about 6 months ago, and how have you changed as a writer? Drop me a comment or a pingback, and lets all have a trawl through your archives!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI think I’ve definitely developed quite a bit since 6 months ago. I actually started my blog documenting the smaller get-paid-to programs and now that blog seems to be more focused on blog-related income streams, though that itself might change soon.
Nice idea, Chris… and thanks for yet another mention.
Just checked the Blog-op archives and there seems to be a lot more contributions from other bloggers during December last year.
The hoopla got canceled. And not completely acclimated yet. I think I’m too old to get there within a year. Thanks for the look back, Chris.
Hmm… haven’t start my blog six months ago. But what I have noticed is that there are a lot more stuff that I would like to blog about now.
Hey Maki, sounds like an intriguing change on the horizon? Yeah, although I’m more than happy to accept articles (especially quality ones like that recently supplied by Scott@ Savvy Affiliate) the idea never really took off.
But then I’ve found more to write about than I thought I would…
I don’t enjoy the cold RT, but I don’t think I could ever stand that kind of heat-I’d be stuck to the A/C (Which I know you haven’t got). I like reading back through people’s archives, which makes it a tad frustrating when they don’t have links to them.
Keep going Andy, the time will fly by
Thanks for the link Chris!
It’s always good to look back & see if your blogging is meeting your goals. I have written other articles on the same subject as of late!
Congrats Chris.. you have done a great job and I’m sure it’s only going to get better.
I just crossed my 3 month mark couple of weeks back. I am not sure if my style is changing or not but like you guys mentioned there is no dearth of stuff to talk about which was a concern to me when I started out. If I would be able to sustain the level of posts..
As you can see, I was not among the chosen few. The interview was, however, as nice as always. Really, people should have interviews like that every few months just for the positive feelings they generate.
If only the soul-crushing disappointment didn’t have to follow….
But I liked seeing your link to that heartwarming holiday story. Sort of makes me look like Jimmy Stewart doesn’t it? (No, I suppose not either.)
Hey Chris - Looks like you’ve been digging into my archives a bit to pull out the blogroll post. Since writing the post, however, I’ve decided that a blogroll is still important (especially since google gives weight to them) and maintain a small set of sites within it.
oohhh…
six months ago I was in the middle of a social storm… with 2000+ visitors each day… they were crazy for my google guide …
sadly it was over in less than a month…
Cheers, K, you’ll look back on your early posts, and they’ll definitely be different.
Jimmy Stewart Curmudgeon? Hmmmm…..
I agree Josh, that’s why I’ve kept mine, but on a single page.
It’s a heady rush at the time Francisco, but then they leave and you’re left to clean up….
