As a follow up to the post below, Matt@eJabs gave me a heads-up in the comments that Gina Trapani, who effectively is Lifehacker, has published her response to the general outrage of the ’stop spam from foreign countries’ post. I quote it in its entirety:

Hi all - just to address your concerns: Rick wrote this post up based on a reader tip, as detailed in the post. The 95 percent figure was a direct quote of an email tip we received, which is why it was included as a blockquote. Rick did not research the numbers John mentioned, and I’m sorry if the reader’s wording offended you.

Like everything else you find on Lifehacker, take or leave it, depending on whether or not the tip helps you.

My translation: We didn’t bother checking the facts, it was the reader’s fault for submitting it, if you don’t like that too bad.

Now, my blogs are read by 3 people on a good day, and one of those was probably Googling for something else, but I wouldn’t post something like that without checking the facts first. Would you?

Lifehacker, one blog I won’t be reading again.
