Themes
I’ve had a hankering to write my own WordPress theme for a while now, and I’m going to attempt to do one for my photoblog. There aren’t many to choose from for photoblogs (the one I use isn’t photo specific, although I think it does a good job), and those that are out there don’t quite have what I’m after.
I’ve found a fair few articles on how-to, and I think it’s possible, although given my lack of artistic skill, the final result will be of debatable quality, but I figure it will be a useful learning process. Anyone out there with theme experience who wants to pass on some hints and tips, I’d be more than grateful - who knows, if successful I may even let you look at the finished result! So if I disappear over the next few days, I’ll be tearing my hair out over CSS, Divs and hooks and all other kinds of wonderful stuff.
Alexa
RT has fallen out with Alexa, and doesn’t know if the relationship can be saved. I’ve experienced a rise in Alexa numbers across 4 sites just recently despite an increase in visitor numbers. We all know Alexa is totally unrealistic, but Maki reports a similar effect on Dosh Dosh. Anyone else experiencing this?
Free Web Hosting
Something I could do with, given the incomparable awfulness of ANHosting. Head on over to Twenty Steps, be more witty than I am and win yourself a years free hosting with Dreamhost.
Comment Sensitive
Lorelle asks if we are becoming over sensitive over comments, and the stats she provides certainly would account for why. I’ve had 2500+ genuine comments on this blog, but also had 3200+ spam comments plus however many were blocked before reaching the blog. I certainly do pause and ponder over many comments I receive, unsure as to whether they, or the intent behind them is genuine. It’s another reason I like the Link Love plugin.
Right, I’m off to update my kids School Website (why did I volunteer?) before attempting my own theme - wish me luck!
