This was written so well Chris. You really write from the “everyman” (or woman) blogger viewpoint and make it understandable. I don’t consider myself one of the major bloggers, but when I found out that my Pentimento blog went from a 4 to a 3 the other day, it was enough to make me want to slap Google back. I don’t make tons of money. Just a little to call my own.

Thanks for the kind words here, which are great to read. I didn’t agree with what Google did, although their guidelines did state that my paid links were against their TOS. Disregarding that, I want to thank any of my prize draw entrants who are reading this, and who kindly removed their links to my site after my request.

Chris.. i hear you. I am kind of glad to see all this happening before I have started monetizing or even depending on my blog for making money. It’s an eye opener for me. It is although sad to see such great bloggers like David Airey getting penalized by Google.

I love their products but I wonder if this is one step closer to being regarded as another Microsoft in the making.

Definitely! Blatant protectionism and anti-competitive moves spun as “good for the web” is a bit much to swallow. I’m liking Google less and less and even considering not using their services anymore, such as gmail, docs, etc.

I agree with you Michael - less than 15% of my traffic comes from Google and I’m glad about that.

It really is the hypocrisy of that company that sticks in my throat - Removing the likes of David’s site because of a competition and a couple of paid links is just contemptible.
