Did you know that incoming links to your blog are no longer counted by Technorati after 6 months? And equally, links you gave 6 months ago are also discounted?

This was something that I was vaguely aware of, without really thinking about it, until I read The biggest Technorati tip in the world on Blogging Basics 101. The post was written by Michelle of Scribbit, who I’ve encountered on her own blog, and for those of you who track, and perhaps rely on your Technorati rank for monetization purposes, it’s something you need to think about. As your blog reaches six months old (as mine are) you will find links disappearing and your rank getting worse on a daily basis.

So to prevent this, you need to ensure that you continue with your link building activities, rather than rest on your laurels, the first of which is obviously to make sure you’re writing some good posts that people will link to! Another good way to get links is to give links, and that leads me onto the second article that’s made me think about this issue.

RT from Untwisted Vortex has decided to start handing out the link love on a regular basis, and has adapted it further so that most posts will include a short relevant paragraph of link love at the bottom, to his favourite bloggers and posts. So with that in mind, I am going to start something similar, probably not every post, but certainly every week. This will take the form of some relevant link love and anchor text for the blogs I like to read.

So, when you link to someone, don’t leave it there, because for one reason the link will lose value in 6 months, and for another, it’s cool to share the love! Link regularly to your favourite bloggers and their best posts, which will bring them new readers and better link ranking. Who knows, maybe someone will do the same for you ;-)
