No.2 on my list of bloggers that make me think is Scott Adams.
Scott is the creator of the Dilbert comic, but is also a prolific and deep thinking blogger who can veer from the absurd to the ridiculous, visiting sanity on the way, but always gives you a banquet-load of food for thought. If you’ve ever read the comic, you’ll know that Scott does much more than ‘just’ laughs (although he does that well), his observation of the human race is acute, and deeper things are dropped in all the time.
His blog take this to the next level, with posts ranging from discussing rational evil and why you could consider Israel’s foreign policy to be sensible at this point in time to his fucked up tennis balls. It’s a personal blog just like any other, but written by a clever guy with a wicked sense of humour. Scott regularly posts thought experiments where he asks you to consider a certain point of view, and to argue rationally for and against it, and watching the commenters tie themselves in knots over it is something to behold. Take his peace plan, which of course would never work, mainly due to human nature, but it makes you think, and perhaps look at things from a different angle.
It’s not all deep topics though as Scott’s ideas for using a Brazillian erection spider show, and you also often get some cool insights into the comic creation process, and how Scott has to deal with the censorious attitudes of some of his editors.
If you like a blog that makes you think, that makes you laugh, or you just want to marvel at the ragged, shambling humanity that shows up in his comments, then the Dilbert Blog is the place for you.
