Last week’s poll was interesting for me, not so much that 6 of the 9 respondents were using a variant of 2.1 which is to be expected, but that one person was using version 1.5 and that one had no idea.Unfortunately they didn’t leave their reasons, but I’d love to know why you would use a piece of free software so far out of date.
I have read a few bloggers who don’t like 2.1 for whatever reason and prefer to stick with the 2.0.x branch, which is fine, because it’s actively maintained with 2.0.9 incorporating the latest security features. But why you’d use something that old I’m not sure. Any ideas?
The person who didn’t know is also interesting - both versions 2.0.6 and 2.1.1 had security issues which may allow someone to take over and/or destroy your blog. Of course, as long as you backup, you could get it back, but why go through that? WordPress tells you about upgrades in your dashboard, and of course blogs like mine always mention when a new upgrade comes out. Keep up to date, especially where security features are concerned!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIt depends on users choice. If you are a kind of person who wants to get latest stuff on the door and see whats new you would go for new and who like to see first the product gets stabled they would choose the old.
Its a matter of concern for older blogs more. They would not like any thing happening to the blog any moment
we didnt update BAYB for a while, i dunno. if its not broke dont break it?
I definitely don’t upgrade same day, unless it’s a security fix, because of things like 2.1.1 - I could have installed a compromised version of WP.
I agree with you to a point Matthew, and indeed I have a test blog which gets updated first to see if anything does break, but the bigger your blog becomes, the more of a target for the hackers you are….
I am waiting for my developer to upgrade my blogs for me as it was all too complicated for me.
You did a Fantastico install didn’t you Crunchy? One click upgrade that’s all, just make sure you’re all backed up first.
