This weeks poll asks how often a blogger needs to post to keep your interest. At what point do you unsubscribe from their feed, or just stop visiting?
Myself, it definitely doesn’t need to be daily, but if the posts start appearing weekly or less, I lose interest. Obviously if the blogger states up front that they’re a weekly poster, or that they’re concentrating on other things for a while I’ll give them some slack, but if the feed starts to dry up they get deleted.
How about you, how long do you give a blogger before you lose interest? Can it go the other way, and too many posts can put you off? Let me know in the comments.
If you can’t see the poll, please switch off your ad-blocker momentarily. Thanks.

ive only unsubscribed to one feed, it was boring lol
hey drop by BAYB and let me know the best way to reach ya, I had a few ideas i was looking to bounce off ya
I voted weekly but that only applies to bloggers that I don’t really know. If a rarely updated blog belongs to a friend I’ll stick with it and check it, but probably only on a monthly basis.
I would go for at least twice a weekly to weekly posts. If it takes longer than that, I would considering hanging around other places.
Chris, isn’t that the purpose of feeds — so that the occasional poster can be ‘visible’ along with the ones who post 10 times a day?
Wouldn’t regularity — predictability — be more important than frequency for its own sake, particularly if content were important?
P.S. — Since you didn’t give me an “it depends” button I went with weekly.
But I don’t know that that’s really true… that’s what a sidebar is for… although if I know someone posts erratically I don’t check as frequently either.
I put whenever if its good, but that does only apply to my sidebar lot. If other bloggers that i visit started posting less frequently, then i would visit less until i just didn’t bother.
A lot of posts don’t bother me, as long as its not just crap.
You guys don’t like committing yourselves do you?
Seriously, thanks for voting, I’ll be interested to see how it turns out.
I quite agree that the longer I’ve read the blogger, the less likely I am to delete the feed, which is kinda where I’m coming from with this poll – guidance for new bloggers especially with how to attract and keep their readers.
Curmudgeon, I have over 70 feeds now, and like finding more – if it’s a new feed which doesn’t update in the first week or so of subscription I soon delete it, unless the blogger has indicated that they don’t post much. I’m a neat freak, and dead feeds have to go!
“…as long as its not just crap.”
And yet you still visit my Thermal blog. Thanks Claire!
I’m somewhere between “whenever I have something worth saying, and 2-3 times a week”
Whenever if it’s good enough. Too much unrelevant content though and that’s no good.
I don’t care how infrequently someone posts. I would if I had to go to their blog. But with my reader, if they don’t post, I don’t think about them at all. I have, however, unscribed to blogs that post too frequently or if their posts are too long. One blog I originally subscribed to posted about twenty times a day. Others I am interested in learning from, require a half-hour to read. A half-dozen or so very short posts each day, or the infrequent posts, don’t bother me at all.
After all, how many books a year does JK Rollins (sp?) have to write to keep her readers coming back?
After thinking about this a while, I came back. This question has been asked a lot lately, making me wonder what percentage of users have readers, and why, if they are viewing posts they have subscribed to, the infrequency of posts bother them. Perhaps your next poll should ask this. It would be interesting to know.
I’m voting for weekly, but I guess it also depends on what type of blog it is.
Generally i try to post daily but sue to some other activities , i end up posting 4 in a week approx . To keep a blog in the feed , i feel a month would be an approx time .
I might well do Edward, cheers. I was asking this question more from the perspective of people unsure of what sort of frequency to post at, new bloggers and the like. Myself I post at a level I feel comfortable with, and stick to it:
Thanks for voting Andy
Cheers Madhur, the key thing is to stick to your frequency I think – one of the blogs I’ve been reading for over 3 months hasn’t posted for a month now-I haven’t deleted the feed yet, only because I’ve read him for so long but I do wonder what’s happened.
Beginning to wonder why i do come back. A glutton for punishment i suppose.
I am suprised that so fewer people voted for daily

I am old fashioned and still hardly use feeds… I suppose I should get with the program.
I still have my links and a bazillion bookmarks of one’s that I check with less frequency.
I usually don’t delete a feed unless the feeds disappear for more than a month. That’s generally a good indicator that the blogger gave it up. As far as posting frequency, I post as often as I have something on my mind. It could be once or up to 5 times a day. My feed subscribers go up and down, so I can’t really judge what posting frequency is the best.
Cheers RT, I tend to agree with you.
I know there’s a huge crowd out there that says you should only post when you have quality content…but the fact is…a lot of readers just like to see fresh info on your blog.
As long as you’re not just posting to post…your posts don’t necessarily have to be “ground-shaking” as long as they give some readers some type of value for their time!
If I could vote for two…I would vote for “Daily”, or “Whenever…if it’s good”, but since I can’t, I’m going to vote for “Daily”.
Update at least every 2 days I think. Daily is best not that I do it.
