Another treat for WordPress users (leave Blogger, and come join us, you know you want to) is the Firestats plugin.
Simply download, install to your blog and activate, and then on a new page from your dashboard you have access to:
- Basic hit statistics (hits total since installation, in last 24 days etc)
- Recent popular pages
- Recent referrers
- Browser and OS trees
- IP to country - know where your visitors are surfing from
- A list of recent hits
- Excluding unwanted hits from the display by IP address or by user-agent (to be used to filter bots)
In addition you can add the flag/operating system/browser icon to the comments and the stats to the sidebar as I have done. Installation takes minutes, and it puts a wealth of stats at your fingertips. Recommended.

Matt
I installed it to test it out, I wish I could have a small display on the webpage of the stats.
Hi Matthews!,
I haven’t tried Counterize, I’ll have to have a look.
Is your theme widgetized? If so, just drop the script into a text box and place it where you want it.
If not, you should still be able to insert the script where you want it to appear.
I get a lot of spam, usually about 10 comments overnight.
Do you use any plugins for that?
Yep, I use Bad Behavior which stops 99% of spam before I even see it, and then Akismet sweeps the rest into a moderation queue.
So far, nothing has slipped through….
Good recommendation, Chris. I’ve installed it and it looks good.
