Just a quick note to tell those of you that read RT’s blog at UntwistedVortex.com, that his domain registrar has cocked up and his blog is currently offline.
He did renew his domain registration (a month ago!) but it hasn’t taken for some reason, and as a result the error message you see is up.
The domain is currently being held by his old provider, but could be released to anyone in the next few days. Suggestions to prevent this are welcome.
He will be back as soon as possible.
Never mind all that, he’s back! Never trust your domain registrar seems to be the order of the day…..

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackOh no! I saw that earlier and wondered what was going on.
Hope to see you soon RT!
Thanks Alison,
It turns out that when I confirmed the transfer lock release at Dotster, that they didn’t do it, so the transfer never went through to register.com. I never received anything, so I thought everything was okay.
That’ll teach me to trust registrars.
With the help of Matthew at http://www.ejabs.com/ , I’ve renewed at Dotster for a year and will force the transfer later. I’m just waiting now for the domain to come back online.
Now that was a convoluted reply. Fix my typos, if you would.
It seems to be back online in the U.S., Canada, Czech Republic. Perhaps in Britain, but not in Asia I’m sure.
I want to install the ‘edit comments’ plugin but it breaks my theme….
I want to install it too, but I don’t even know where to get it. I’m just joking. I haven’t looked for it yet. I don’t want that stupid one with a timer on it either.
It has to be neat and easy and give them like a default amount of time to edit (like 5 minutes).
By the way, I could probably figure out your theme and help you fix things, but you’ll have to zip it up and send it to me. I can sandbox it and work with it, including getting the edit comments thing to work, if it can be done.
sorry about your ordeal! I am always interested in finding out these quirks about hosting companies since i may be moving from blogspot to wordpress one of these days
Thanks RT, I may well take you up on that.
Cynically speaking, you really can’t completely trust any registrar except your own (which unfortunately isn’t cheap).
Just a precaution a lot of people don’t know: there’s a little-known “rule” wherein a .com domain name that expired, was later renewed, then subsequently transferred to another registrar within 45 days after that renewal will not be given an extra year. If the transfer pushes through, though, see if you can get a refund from the losing registrar for the renewal.
It’s a loooooooooooooong story. I’ll write about that this week.
Somedays the internet is hard work
Is your blog OK Dave, I keep getting 404’s if I try to navigate off the home page.
