Wow, you do keep yourself busy!

If you ever get the time, I'll read it that's for sure. Hope you don't have to sell SNTC, but it'd be worth a bomb I'm sure.

First baby? Or are you aware of the horrors that will entail? (My twins are 5!) Good luck with the sprog anyway Anita :-)

I wish I had the time for another site. I barely have the time for my own (and may need to sell it or stop blogging for a while, as I'm expecting a baby and may have to go on bedrest).

Who knows, maybe someday I'll start a "how to" website. Time is the biggest limiting factor right now.

Anita, do you have another blog or website somewhere? Because I learn something from everyone of your comments, so if you haven't you really should.

I thought dedicated servers were supposed to be the mutts nuts, I didn't realise they were so flaky.

Something else to file away for another post

Chris - Actually, I'm not making any money right now. When I put up advertisements, the traffic stabilized instead of continuing upwards, so I disabled them. I've been focused primarily on traffic, so I've pretty much ignored monetization.

The problem with dedicated servers is that you need a decent one to handle significant traffic. I'm on a shared server that has 4 dual core processors with 16 GB of ram. When I get a traffic spike, there's no hiccup. I have friends who are running similar sites on the typical $100-200 dedicated host, and when they get a spike, their server goes down.

Very good point Vinod - remember the Divshare plugin Anita? May help.

I'm afraid I don't have that kind of traffic problem Anita (envy) but I'm not sure I'd trust my host that far. The last time my host did an automatic backup they were a day light-fortunately I had a backup that was up to date and they installed it for me.

I've read some horror stories about this...

I don't know what kind of income SNTC is giving you Anita, but with that kind of traffic, you can't be too far from moving to a dedicated server can you? May be a worthwhile investment?

Anita: Moving your pictures to a Photosharing service like Photobucket could save you on I/O.

The translation plugin is a little overkill. The reason why a lot of languages aren't supported by all is because of language overlapping. An example is the Tagalog. Most people who speak that language speak English as well. Not only that, a lot of English phrases don't translate well into their language.

Has anyone had problem with backup plugins hitting the CPU limits on shared servers?

My host only allows me to use 5% of the CPU over a 15 minute period, then I would get shutdown for 15 minutes. I use the WP-CACHE plugin, so this isn't a problem even on heavy days (I've survived the 5% cap even on a day with 200,000 uniques and over 5,000,000 hits).

However, since I get 10-20K visits on a regular day, the backup always seems to hit the 5% due to I/O waits. My current backup is just relying on the host ... which seems a bit foolish.

Thoughts?
