Just a quickie really:
Everything I hear, and experience myself, seems to tell me that no webhost is actually half as good as they’d like us to believe: 99.9% uptimes, superfast servers etc. all seem to be exaggerations at best.
So: For those of you on paid hosting, I’d like to know who you’re with, and would you recommend them? If you can indicate what you’re paying a month as well, that would also be interesting.
I’m with ANHosting, a division of MidPhase, and I’m paying $6.95 a month. When they’re working they are excellent, fully featured and very fast. However, I’ve had at least 30 hours downtime in 3 months that I’m aware of, which isn’t quite 99.9% uptime…. I wouldn’t recommend them now, but if they improve over the year I might.
What’s your situation?
Thanks.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackStreamline.net – I’ve been with this host for about 3 years now. No problems with them so far. £32.99 a year inc domain and 500mb of space. Also I think the support is pretty good. I get a response within 24 hours which is nice to know. Also you get £25 credit of Google Ad Words which is kind of cool.
All in all it does what I need, no fuss. so yes – I would recommend.
Kev
I am with BlueFur and they are about the same price.
They have had downtime too, but usually fix it quickly and I LOVE their customer support…they are fast and sooo patient with dummies like me.
Thanks guys.
I should have mentioned ANH’s tech support which IS excellent: I’ve never waited more than 30 minutes for a reply whatever time of day, and they’ve always fixed it. They’ll also do things like restoring backups for you if you ask, in minutes as well.
That’s pretty cheap Kevin, for a UK host.
I’m with bluehost. They’ve been AMAZING so far. $90 for 1 year, 2TB transfer, 200GB disk space, etc., etc. The only problem is that you’re somewhat limited on outbound e-mail (500/hour I believe), and you can’t use a ton of php scripts (I use wp-cache so this isn’t a problem) or else you hit the CPU limit.
I’ve been down twice since October. Once for about 5 minutes, the other for 45 minutes. I’ve pumped through close to 100Mbps for extended periods each time I was dugg, and the system never hiccuped. Customer service is also excellent, at least compared to what I’ve heard of elsewhere.
Anita =)
Thanks Anita, I’m saving all of this info up for:
a. When I renew in January.
b. A hopefully link-baity post in the near future
I’m pretty pleased with Dreamhost. full unix shell in addition to crappy panel admin stuff.
coupon code ECLECTICISM will save you $97
Thanks for that Jer, I hope that code helps someone out.
Love your URL, how many times do you get dumped in spam filters because of it?
I was looking at it thinking ‘Nyquil’s a drug-but it seems like a real comment….’
Too much C1al1s and vi’gr4 in my inbox
I’ve been using Cubichosting.net for several years and I’ve had absolutely no complaints. Their up-time is good, customer service has been excellent, and their prices are very reasonable.
I’ve got several small sites on their Micro plan (50Mb disk space, 3Gb monthly transfer) for $12 a year. As the site grows I can easily upgrade as needed.
Thanks for pointing me back here Chris. I will have to mull it all over now.
Good luck!
