I’ve been reading a lot recently about how you should be auditing your About Page, and exactly what information you should put into it, and I’m not giving away any secrets when I say that my page is virtually unchanged since I started this blog, so it’s certainly due a refresh.
I’m definitely in favour of blog’s having an about page, as without them my first impression of a blog is often one of suspicion: who’s actually behind this? Why aren’t they telling us? Let’s be honest, how many spammers and scrapers do you see with an about page? So I think you should have one.
But before I re-do mine, I’d like to get your feedback on what you’d like to see there:
- Do you like to see author photos? There’s a few ugly mugs out there, do you really want me to add to them?
- Do you want to know about my history, or is it just what I do now that matters?
- Do you want to read about my hobbies, interests or see my other websites?
In short, what do you like to see when you visit an about page?
About YouÂ
How do you feel about your About page? Does it do your blog proud, or is it gathering cobwebs? Do you even have one? Let me know in the comments, so I can check it out, and steal some tips ![]()

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI think a photo or two is great. (I’d rather not see a picture of your cat.)
history…or whatever you want people to know
between the two blogs of yours I read…I guest most people can figure out your hobbies…laughing
I like to see the general idea where people live and some idea how old they are.
Photos? Yes! Not an entire album (at least not on the about page), but it’s good to have a visual to connect with the blogger.
And regarding pictures of your cat: Bloggers with pets get bonus points, but that’s just my highly-subjective take.
My about page sucks, by the way. Don’t go there. I’d really rather people didn’t. I need to work on it, but the actual blog always takes precedence, and about pages are uncomfortable to write. So, yeah, cobweb city.
I think photos are nice - they give a more personal touch. It makes you feel like you’re talking to a real person.
Surprisingly enough, my About Me page is in my top 5 clicks. I have a pic of me and my boys; I love to show them off!
My current About Page is all about why I blog at ShanKri-la and what I have set out to achieve with it and very little about me.
I am about to overhaul mine as well and may be add one of those mugshots I use in my SU & MBL profile.
I might have said before, but I think every About page should have links to the authors profiles in various services so it is easy to find them and befriend them. Kind of like you see in BlogCatalog’s profile page.
Ok, I will stop preaching this and actually do this myself. Until then, everybody hold off checking mine.
Gah, photos it is then
Thanks for all your feedback guys, I shall get on with it, and that’s a cool idea K, I shall pinch it
Pictures are a good thing, but, like many people, I prefer not to add them.
I personally think a nice compromise is to put up a drawing or caricature of yourself instead. As long as it looks “close enough.” A stick figure probably wouldn’t cut it.
I recently updated our About page over on 2Dolphins and I’m really proud of it. There’s still room for improvement, but hopefully, it does give the reader enough to spark further interest or answer a nagging question or two. (Feedback welcome!!)
Btw, nice caricature, VN!
I think its important to know that the author actually knows what he is talking about. There are so many bloggers now days misleading their readers due to lack of knowledge.
