It’s a good question, and one I’ve just been asked by David Airey, who gave his ‘Five Reasons Why I blog‘.

It may be a useful question to ask yourself, to see if you’re on track, or to ensure you’re still blogging for the right reasons. If you want to answer this question on your own blog, feel free to drop a link to it in my comments - It’d be cool to read your reasons.

Here are mine:

  1. I really enjoyed building my own website last year, and wanted to do more, and have something I could work on every day. I’m a long way from an expert, but I enjoy dabbling with HTML, CSS etc. as you can probably tell from Blog-Op. This is why I decided to start a blog.
  2. When Googling ‘How to blog’ last November, two results which had a big influence on me, and convinced me I could blog were Steve Pavlina and Darren Rowse. Not for one minute do I think I can be as good as them, but their positivity, and brilliant tips and information gave me a real positive push to start.
  3. I still remember my very first comment (thanks Carol!) and what a thrill it was to think ‘Wow, someones reading my blog & making nice comments!’ Since then, the comments have become my favourite part, I’ve struck up some good online friendships, and had the chance to chat to some really cool people from all around the world.
  4. I had no intention of, and no idea that you could make money from blogging when I started, but I do now, and it’s an added incentive. I’m a firm believer in paid posts, and think that everyone should do them who wants to, subject to maintaining their blog’s quality and regular number of posts. We’re not poor by any means, but paid posting is the difference between us having a holiday this year or not, and that means a lot.
  5. I have simply, really enjoyed it and found something that I would like to continue to do. I intend to start some more blogs, on various subjects, whilst maintaining my current ones. I can’t remember what I used to do with my time before :-)

Right, they’re mine - what are yours?
