I have recently been considering taking out some paid advertising for Blog-Op, and inspired by another evil idea of John Chow, I’d like to do it using Text Link Ads (aff).
I have posted about TLA before, and so far they have sold links for me on my Thermal blog (I’m awaiting approval for Blog-Op) which is proving to be very easy money. If I buy $25 worth of advertising from TLA at the moment, they will give me another $100 credit, giving me $125 to buy links on other peoples blogs.
If you sign up for TLA as an ad publisher using my affiliate link, and are approved, I will receive $25 allowing me to purchase my initial ads (I like to make my blogs pay for themselves if I can, without touching our normal family income) + $100 credit. I then think it will only be fair to buy a link back on your site for which you will get paid.
It is only worth signing up for TLA if you have some PR and traffic. Thermal was approved with a PR 4 and Alexa of around 500,000 to give you some idea. TLA set your ad rate according to your PR & Alexa, and they can go right up to $200 a link, but links on Thermal cost $20 a month, so as long as you don’t have a PR of 8 I should be able to afford it
If I get some traffic from the links, I may well keep buying them from my other blog income, so it would be a useful experiment, and we could both make money. Anyone interested?

I am interested. Like you, I like to make my blogs pay for themselves if I can, without touching our normal family income.
If you are interested in placing an ad on my blog Mahanandi, please contact me via emial address of this comment.
Thanks.
Forgot to mention about Mahanandi (www.nandyala.org/mahanandi) traffic data. Here is the link to Alexa.
Thanks.
Hi , i would like to ask you about one thing . My blog was approved with a PR 5 and Alexa ranking of 349,000 but so far i have found no advertiser with TLA , any idea why ?
At present I’m keeping my site limited to pure content. Perhaps if the traffic takes a significant boost I’ll opt for affiliation.
Do let us know how you get on.
Hey Indira, sign up to my TLA affiliate link & I’ll be right over
Madhur, I’m not sure to be honest - both my advertisers on my .co.uk blog are UK companies and they probably just wanted a PR 4 uk blog to link them up.
I would suggest posting on your blog that you have TLA spots available and inviting your readers to buy one - JohnTP makes a point of self-advertising his TLA ads and has had some success that way I believe.
I will David - still, you could sign up as an advertiser and buy an ad on Thermal
I think i signed up with these and they are looking for advertisers?
The ad will just appear when they have found someone?
No idea really, i just sigh up for these things after you have recommended them and then forget about them.
Yeah, if you see the ads on Thermal for web design & inkjet cartridges near the Top Commentators box, they’re my TLA’s. The ads just appear by themselves after you’ve installed the code-all very easy.
Madhur Kapoor, it depends on your location and target audience as well. Advertisers are weighing this as well as the amount of target audience traffic. Hope that helps.
It could be indeed a great solution.
