Do you realize just how helpful linear bearings can be? Or what about flange bearings or tapered roller bearings? Bearings, in general, are simple little pieces of metal that, when used in just the right way, make many a manufacturing process that much simpler and more convenient.
They can be a part of some more complex pieces of a machine, such as grease fittings, or hydraulic cylinders, or they can be standalone. Either way, they are convenient little pieces of technology that make our lives so much easier thanks to their implementation.
- Linear Bearings (and more!)
- Flange Bearings
- Tapered Roller Bearings
You have two options when it comes to linear bearings, both of which have their benefits.
Linear Ball Bearing
-
This choice offers a smooth, straight-line/linear motion in an environment that is debris-free. They require less force to operate due to the fact that they create less overall friction. They can also run at higher speeds because of it. They are to be used on hardened shafts, and usually require lubrication.
Linear Sleeve Bearings
-
These should be considered when you are working with heavy loads, and in dirty environments. They are made of a shell that is lined with a smooth material, such as ceramic, and do not require additional lubrication. They can be used with hardened or unhardened shafts.
These can also be known as plain or plane bearings. They allow for smooth, low-friction motion between two surfaces. The load is borne through the motion of the one solid surface moving across the other. They are designed to handle both radial and thrust movements.
These can also be applied to both radial and thrust motions, meaning that they can be used anywhere there is a turning wheel or shaft. They come in a two-piece design that offers easy assembly and an accurate adjustment.
You have a new-found appreciation for bearings now, don’t you? You might even be able to recognize them in action now too. Take this fantastic knowledge you have and put it to use. Share it with your friends. Share the bearing love with everyone. More research here: www.reidsupply.com
